January 2021 Update

We are all looking forward to better weather, the end of the pandemic and lockdown, and of course, returning to playing golf.

In your absence work is continuing out on the course to maintain and improve it.

The 5 new bunkers are ready and looking splendid. Congratulations to the greenkeepers for all their hard work. The sand will be added once the turfs are fully bedded in and then we can open them for play.

The remains of the felled trees around the 5/14th tee and 9/18th green have now been removed. Many of the smaller branches were shredded and the chippings used on paths around the course.

The work was been completed on the Mast and the area is now clear. We plan to seed and recover the area used for access ready for late spring.

We’ve closed off the path out to the course from the men’s locker room. We plan to keep this closed for the safety of golfers and to protect the fairway. A path has been cleared through the trees leading to the practice area and 5/14th tee. Please use this from now onwards when either starting your round from the 5/14th hole or when returning to the Clubhouse having finished on the 4/13th hole.

We are in the process of erecting netting to the left side of the 16th fairway to protect the gardens where there is a gap in the trees. New trees will be planted in the future to provide further cover.

New tee and fairway mow-overs will be embedded around the course over the next few weeks ready for your return.
The tee mow-overs are colour coded for each course, red, yellow, and white, and provide all the hole details including number, yardage, and stroke index.
The fairway mow-overs will provide the yardage to the centre of greens on par 4s and 5s from 200, 150, and 100 yards. The 9/18th hole will also include a 50-yard mow-over. The existing 150-yard stakes around the course will be kept as visual-markers and be refurbished.

We’ve engaged a company to deep-tine our greens to improve their speed and playability. This work is planned for the spring and If successful we will look to do this on a more regular basis.

The 4/13th green has been raised in the middle to try to stop the collection of water that has been happening after heavy rainfall, we hope to open this green in early spring.

Keep your spirits up and hope to see you all back soon.

Kind Regards

Lovely place. Great function location. Beautiful grounds. Lovely people. I’m having my wedding reception here and the staff have been very helpful.

Having played and been a member of a number of the local clubs over the years, including the “bigger” clubs I recently joined Shortlands Golf Club and couldn’t have a made a better decision. The course is superbly presented and the work on the bunkers really is transforming them from good to great. Its a very friendly club without the airs and graces of some and I have been made to feel both very welcome and in need of more practice!
